SAFETY FIRST
Use a solid working surface with plenty of light. You will want to have newspaper or paper sacks for an easier clean up. Keep paper towel nearby to occasionally wipe your hands. This will help with your hands slipping on the carving tools. CARVING TOOLS There are many different tools that can be used to carve pumpkins. You have beginning tools for smaller people and there are more professional tools for the more professional pumpkin carver. CLEARING OUT THE GUTS
Keep a bowl and small sack to put the guts in. Teach your children the importance of properly clearing out the pulp and the seeds because a lit candle could be dangerous. Metal spoons seem to work the best. CARVING THE PUMPKIN See below on how to use templates. Always be sure to dry your hands so they don't slip on the carving utensils. |
